Eddie Eagle - The Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program

Hi Anthony, Charlie & Jimmy Last night I attended the First Steps class with Jimmy. Even though this class is geared for beginning shooters and I have been a gun owner since 1983, the class was very informative and I learned a lot. Jimmy has a great teaching style that made learning a serious topic fun and easy to understand. He engages the class well and keeps everyone involved. During the live fire session Paul worked with me and helped me overcome some bad habits I’ve developed over the years and he also has a nice approach to teaching firearms safety and handling. I also observed both Paul and Jimmy taking first-time shooters from nervous first trigger pulls to consistent groupings. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Last week I also took the UT & FL non-resident CCW courses with Charlie at Cherry Ridge. He also has a great presentation style and managed to get a room full of applicants trained and processed promptly. Your Woodland Park facility is also first class. It’s clean and welcoming. Most indoor ranges I’ve been to are dark and not user-friendly. GFH stands head and shoulders above the competition. Thanks again for offering this opportunity to the public to increase firearms safety and skills. I look forward to another class soon.

The Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program

Length of Course: 4 hours
Location: Woodland Park Range. Mobile training for this class is also available.
Course Level: Starter (What’s this?)
Who teaches this course? All of our high-level courses are taught by experienced professionals with the credentials to prove it. They are all trained and certified by the N.J. Police Training Commission, N.J. Department of Criminal Justice, and possess Federal Law Enforcement Instructor Certifications. They are experts in N.J. Use of Force Policies, and are always updating the course material with the latest use of force guidelines and case law. At GFH this is not a “hobby” but a full time, legitimate vocation. Any “instructor” can teach you anything, but only a select few can teach you the “why” or the “root of law” to justify your actions. If you were to use your newly acquired skills and you were required to justify your actions, at GFH all of our instructors are ready, willing, and able to testify in your defense as long as you had followed the training and procedures we provided. It does you and your loved ones no good if you survive the fight, and then spend the next thirty years in prison because of the wrong advice you were given by a part time amateur “instructor”.

Course Description: Begun in 1988, The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program has reached more than 21 million children — in all 50 states. This program was developed through the combined efforts of such qualified professionals as clinical psychologists, reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, and law enforcement personnel. Anyone may teach The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program, and NRA membership is not required. The program may be readily incorporated into existing school curriculum, taught in a one- to five-day format, and used to reach both levels or simply one or two grades. Materials available through this program are: student workbooks, 7-minute animated video (available on DVD or VHS), instructor guides, brochures, and student reward stickers. Program materials are also available in Spanish. The NRA is committed to helping keep America’s young children safe. In efforts to do so, we offer our program at a nominal fee. Schools, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, daycare centers, and libraries may be eligible to receive grant funding to defray program costs. Grant funding is available in many states to these groups to cover the cost of all program curriculum materials. The purpose of the Eddie Eagle Program isn’t to teach whether guns are good or bad, but rather to promote the protection and safety of children. The program makes no value judgments about firearms, and no firearms are ever used in the program. Like swimming pools, electrical outlets, matchbooks, and household poison, they’re treated simply as a fact of everyday life. With firearms found in about half of all American households, it’s a stance that makes sense. Eddie Eagle is never shown touching a firearm, and he does not promote firearm ownership or use. The program prohibits the use of Eddie Eagle mascots anywhere that guns are present. The Eddie Eagle Program has no agenda other than accident prevention — ensuring that children stay safe should they encounter a gun. The program never mentions the NRA, nor does it encourage children to buy guns or to become NRA members. The NRA does not receive any appropriations from Congress, nor is it a trade organization. It is not affiliated with any firearm or ammunition manufacturers or with any businesses that deal in guns and ammunition.

Dear Anthony, I found the First Steps course to be a very lively and spirited one.It is refreshing to be among a group of people who cherish the right to own firearms. Our instructor, Robert Howe, knows guns like the back of his hand and was quite helpful. It was a pleasure meeting you, Anthony, and I’m glad you made that cameo appearance in the classroom. Hopefully, one day the State of New Jersey will come to its senses and adopt rational firearms legislation. And when it does, we can all thank the outspoken proponents of Second Amendment rights like yourself. My Florida CCW application went out in the mail yesterday. I look forward to my next course at Guns For Hire.

Anthony, Thanks for a great experience for my son and I. We attended you “First steps pistol” course with Sandy yesterday and it was great! My son has had an interest in competitive shooting for several years and finally got the opportunity to learn from the pros at your facility. Everyone we came in contact with was very supportive and my son and I learned alot. We are looking forward to visiting often. Thanks again to everyone there for a GREAT experience!!!

Hi Anthony, Thanks for your email. Yes – I enjoyed the class yesterday; it was very informative and a good introduction to shooting safely. I now feel confident enough to go to the range and practice independently. However, I know that this is only an introduction and want to come back for further classes. I just wish you were closer than the 2 hour drive! But it was well worth it and will be seeing you again in 4-6 weeks hopefully. Many thanks.

Anthony and staff, I truly enjoyed and was extremely impressed with the extensive wealth of knowledge and your dead on approach to teaching firearms, First Steps to me. You covered an enormous amount of information in a short period of time and your teaching techniques and interaction with the students was remarkable, honest, and sincere. Absolutely can not say enough about the no B.S. way you people do your instruction and run the whole Gun For Hire Teaching / Training facility . Totally professional, yet very friendly, and by far the best firearms instruction I have ever seen. I am looking forward to continuing my training in other classes you offer in the near future. Thanks again!
