What if my party or corporate event guests arrive late?2025-09-03T11:08:21-04:00

We understand—when guests are traveling from different directions, sometimes not everyone arrives right on time. Please don’t worry.

If part of your group is delayed, we’ll get everyone checked in and settled as they arrive. Once your full party or team is here, if it’s past your reserved start time, we’ll do our best to accommodate your event immediately. Depending on how busy the range is, there may be a short wait, but our staff will work closely with you to make sure your celebration or corporate outing still runs smoothly.

Pro Tip: Encourage your guests to plan to arrive 15–20 minutes early. This allows time for check-in, gear distribution, and safety briefings so your group can maximize time on the range.

At Gun For Hire, our goal is to make your event seamless, stress-free, and unforgettable—even if a few folks run late.

What if I’m late for a course or scheduled party?2025-09-03T17:02:12-04:00

What safety rules should I know before visiting?2025-12-03T11:00:55-05:00

At Gun For Hire, safety is our #1 priority. Every guest receives a safety briefing, but here are the key rules to know before you arrive:

  1. Keep all firearms cased until you are inside your assigned port.

  2. Always keep the firearm pointed downrange—never turn with a firearm in hand.

  3. Eye and ear protection are required at all times inside the range.

  4. Follow all Range Safety Officer (RSO) instructions immediately.

  5. Do not load the firearm until you are ready to shoot.

  6. When picking up a firearm, index your finger. This means keeping your finger off the trigger and resting it along the side of the gun until you’re ready to fire.

If you need extra support, we always have professional instructors on staff ready to step in and help—whether it’s your first time or you just want a quick refresher.

At Gun For Hire, safety isn’t just a rule—it’s part of our 6-Star experience.

How long is a typical range session?2025-09-03T10:37:08-04:00

Range time at Gun For Hire is booked by the hour. A standard session includes one full hour in your port, and most guests find this is plenty of time to enjoy their rentals or practice with their own firearms.

If you’d like to shoot longer, you can extend your session in additional hour blocks—just check with the counter staff before your time is up.

Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, our goal is to give you the time and space you need to enjoy a safe and unforgettable experience.

That said, weekends and evenings can get busy, with an average wait time of about 35 minutes (though this can fluctuate).

No matter when you walk in, our staff will make sure your experience is smooth, safe, and fun from start to finish.

Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own firearm — even if you’re visiting from New York. Our 50-yard range is built to handle just about anything, up to and including a .50 cal BMG.

We do ask that all firearms remain cased until you enter your port. Our team will not inspect or review your firearm; it’s your responsibility to ensure that it is operational and compliant. However, if you’d like assistance, our skilled gunsmiths are always available for cleaning, maintenance, or repairs.

For those traveling from out of state, please follow proper transport laws: keep your firearm unloaded and locked in a case, store your ammunition separately, and secure both in the trunk (or as far from the driver as possible). New York residents can also travel here with their firearm under these same guidelines.

Just looking for a quick photo? Ask a Manager, and we’ll do our best to safely pop you in between strings of fire.

What is an FID card and do I need one?2025-09-02T14:24:08-04:00

An FID card (Firearms Purchaser Identification Card) is a permit issued by the State of New Jersey that allows residents to purchase and own firearms and ammunition.

But here’s the good news: you do not need an FID card to shoot at Gun For Hire. Our range is open to the public, and first-time guests are welcome every day. Just bring a valid photo ID, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you are interested in owning a firearm in New Jersey, that’s where an FID card comes in. The process can be a little confusing, but our Gun For Hire Concierge Team is here to help guide you every step of the way—from applying for your FID to choosing your first firearm.

Can I holster draw in the range?2025-09-02T14:30:36-04:00

Can I holster draw in the range?
For safety, holster draw is only permitted under specific conditions:

  • Active Law Enforcement or individuals who have successfully completed the Gun For Hire 4-Hour Holster Draw Course may draw and fire from the holster.

  • Retired Law Enforcement, armed security personnel, and NJ CCW permit holders may carry a firearm holstered, but may not conduct draw-and-fire drills inside the range.

Please note: Meeting the above prerequisites does not exempt anyone from following all range rules. Firearms must always be aimed; no hip-firing, retention shooting, or other prohibited actions are allowed.

Range Safety Officers are on duty at all times. If they observe unsafe behavior or rule violations, holster privileges may be revoked.

Important: Anyone carrying a firearm must keep it holstered at all times in public areas, including the lobby and store. Firearms may only be unholstered once you are inside your port and ready to shoot.

Can I bring my child or minor to the range?2025-12-03T10:22:10-05:00

Can I bring a child to the range?
Yes! Gun For Hire is proud to be a true family range. We welcome children to safely experience the sport of shooting with their parents or guardians.

Age guidelines:

  • Under 8: Children may not enter the live range. However, we provide a comfortable family lounge where you can relax and watch from outside the bay. Plus, our youngest guests receive a small surprise gift so they still feel part of the fun.

  • Ages 8 and up: May shoot long guns (rifles or shotguns) under the supervision of an adult 21 or older.

  • Ages 13 and up: May shoot pistols as well as long guns, again with an adult 21 or older.

For safety and comfort, we recommend younger shooters start with a .22LR firearm. If a child shows maturity and the ability to handle more, our instructors may allow larger calibers.

Important to know:

  • Children cannot be left unattended at any time.

  • A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for a minor’s participation. Each visit also confirms agreement to our most current Waiver and Assumption of Risk policy.

Gun For Hire is committed to offering a safe, educational, and family-friendly environment for everyone.

Do you accommodate guests with disabilities?2025-09-02T15:04:31-04:00

Yes! Gun For Hire is fully ADA accessible, and we take pride in welcoming guests of all abilities to enjoy the range. Our facility is on one level, with wide lanes and adjustable shooting tables designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility needs.

At the Range:
We’ve proudly hosted guests with a wide variety of physical challenges—including wheelchair users, those with limited mobility, and even guests with vision impairments—always with safety and enjoyment as our top priorities. Professional instruction is available at any time to ensure every guest feels safe, supported, and confident during their visit.

Courses and Training:
Our instructors are experienced in adapting firearms training for students with different needs. Whether that means adjusting techniques, modifying drills, or working at a different pace, we strive to make learning accessible and rewarding.

If you or a loved one has unique needs and would like to confirm accommodations before visiting, please email info@gunforhire.com so we can make sure everything is ready for you.

At Gun For Hire, we believe the shooting sports should be open to everyone, and we’re committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive experience for all.

Can pregnant women or nursing mothers shoot?2025-09-02T15:09:18-04:00

For health and safety reasons, we do not recommend shooting while pregnant or nursing. While the risk of exposure to lead particles is minimal, and modern ranges like ours take extensive safety precautions, medical experts still advise against it. Combined with the noise and vibrations, it’s best to wait until after pregnancy or nursing to participate.

You are, however, always welcome to enjoy the range in other ways—many expectant or nursing mothers visit to watch family and friends shoot from our lounge or viewing areas.

If you have specific medical questions, we always encourage you to consult with your healthcare provider before making a decision.

At Gun For Hire, your safety and well-being come first.

Can I bring my own firearm to a training course?2025-09-02T15:23:47-04:00

Yes! For our beginner-level courses (such as NRA First Steps in pistol, rifle, or shotgun), students typically use the specific rental firearms we provide for consistency and safety. However, you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Once you progress beyond the beginner level, things change: for all intermediate and advanced courses, you are required to use your own firearm. Rentals are not available at those levels, as training focuses on building deeper skills with your personal firearm.

This structure ensures that beginners learn on standardized, easy-to-use firearms, while experienced shooters advance with the firearm they plan to carry or train with long-term.

How do I enroll in a course?2025-09-02T15:30:15-04:00

Enrolling in a course at Gun For Hire is quick and easy. Simply visit our [Academy site], choose the class that fits your goals (beginner through advanced), and register online. Each course page includes details about prerequisites, what to bring, and available dates.

If you are prior military or law enforcement and wondering where to begin, email us at info@gunforhire.com and our team will point you in the right direction.

Don’t have a computer or prefer to sign up in person? No problem! Just ask for a manager during your next visit to the range. They’ll be happy to help you select the best course, lock in your date, and take your payment right on the spot.

At Gun For Hire, we make the enrollment process simple and flexible—so you can focus on learning, training, and growing your skills.

What is the minimum age to visit the range?2025-09-02T15:34:35-04:00

Gun For Hire is a true family-friendly range, and we welcome guests of all ages. Here’s how it works:

  • Under 8 years old: Children may not enter the live range, but we provide an incomparable family environment where you can relax and watch your friends and family from outside the bay. Plus, we have a special surprise gift for our youngest guests so they feel part of the experience.

  • 8 years old and up: Children can shoot at the range when accompanied by a parent or family member who is 21 or older.

  • Ages 8–12: We have a great selection of rifles perfect for younger shooters, including Ruger 10/22s, which are an ideal fit for this age group.

  • Ages 13 and up: Teens are welcome to rent both handguns and rifles (always with an adult 21 or older).

At every stage, our instructors and Range Safety Officers are here to make the experience safe, exciting, and unforgettable for the whole family.

Are private lessons available?2014-01-26T17:28:52-05:00

Private lessons are available. If you wish to schedule a private lesson please send us an email.

Are there breaks or lunch breaks during scheduled courses?2025-09-02T15:44:32-04:00

Yes. All of our courses include short breaks so you can stretch, grab water, or use the restroom.

For 4-hour and full-day courses, we also schedule a brief lunch break. Please note, there isn’t enough time to leave for a restaurant. We recommend bringing your own lunch or snacks, which you can enjoy here during the break.

This way, you’ll stay fueled up and ready to get the most out of your training without missing a minute of instruction.

Do I need to bring anything with me for a Beginner course?2025-09-02T15:48:04-04:00

No need to worry—we provide everything you’ll need for our Beginner courses. This includes the firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, targets, and all course materials.

All you need to bring is a valid photo ID and an open mind. Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety and comfort.

If you already own a firearm and would like to bring it with you, you’re welcome to—but it’s not required. Please be sure your firearm is locked and cased, and let the instructor know when you enter the classroom that you have it with you.

Will I receive a certificate after the course?2025-09-02T15:49:09-04:00

Yes. Upon successful completion of any Gun For Hire training course, you will receive an official certificate of completion.

These certificates serve as proof of training for your personal records and may also be required for certain applications, qualifications, or continuing education.

Your instructor will review next steps at the end of the course and make sure you leave with your certificate in hand.

Where can I find course pricing?2025-09-02T17:51:21-04:00

All course pricing is listed right on our website. Simply visit the [Academy page], select the course you’re interested in, and you’ll see the full details including price, schedule, and requirements.

If you’d prefer personal assistance, you can also call us or speak with a manager during your next visit to the range—we’ll be happy to walk you through the options and help you choose the right course for your goals.

How large are the group courses?2025-09-02T17:52:07-04:00

We keep our class sizes small and personal to ensure every student gets individual attention. Most courses are limited to 10–12 students, depending on the program.

This allows our instructors to provide hands-on guidance, answer questions, and make sure everyone is progressing safely and confidently.

At Gun For Hire, we believe quality training comes from personalized instruction, not crowded classrooms.

Can I register for a course with a deposit?2025-09-02T17:54:41-04:00

All course registrations require full payment at the time of sign-up to secure your seat. Because our class sizes are kept small, this policy ensures fairness and guarantees your spot—regardless of whether you register online or in person at the range.

If you’d prefer more flexibility, you may be able to reschedule into another course date (subject to our cancellation and rescheduling policy).

What type of clothing is required to use at the range? Do you have a dress code?2025-09-02T18:06:15-04:00

We don’t have a strict “dress code,” but for your safety and comfort we do have a few important guidelines:

  • Closed-toe shoes are required—no sandals, flip-flops, or open footwear.

  • Shirts with sleeves are recommended to protect against hot brass. Tank tops, low-cut shirts, or clothing that leaves skin exposed can make your visit uncomfortable.

  • Eye and ear protection are required at all times on the range (available for rent or purchase if you don’t have your own).

  • Comfortable, casual clothing that allows free movement is best.

At Gun For Hire, safety always comes first—so dressing smart helps ensure you have the most enjoyable experience possible.

Do you have a ladies night?2025-09-02T20:54:10-04:00

We don’t host a traditional weekly “Ladies Night,” because at Gun For Hire every day is designed to be welcoming and inclusive for women. From first-time shooters to experienced marksmen, our range offers a safe, supportive, and family-friendly environment.

That said, we host exciting Girls Night Out (GNO) events, where up to 90 ladies come together for an evening of amazing food, fun, and port time—it’s always one of our most popular gatherings!

For women looking to take their skills more seriously, we also offer a Ladies-Only Beginner Pistol Course, designed to provide a comfortable, supportive learning environment with professional instruction.

👉 Be sure to check our [Events page] for upcoming GNO dates and to visit our [Ladies-Only Basics Pistol page] for more information.

I have never shot before. Do I need to take a class?2025-09-02T21:40:17-04:00

You don’t need to take a full course to enjoy your first visit, but if you’ve never shot before, you are required to take our 15-minute professional introduction inside the port with the firearms you’ve chosen.

At Gun For Hire, safety comes first. This brief session ensures that you not only understand all the range etiquette and safety rules, but also feel confident and comfortable handling the firearm.

First impressions matter—and when it comes to shooting for the very first time, we believe it’s essential to make your experience safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable.

If you’d like to take your training further, we also offer comprehensive Beginner Courses that cover firearm safety, handling, and marksmanship in more detail.

Am I allowed to shoot my own firearm?2025-09-02T21:42:38-04:00

Yes! You are welcome to bring and shoot your own firearm at Gun For Hire. Our ranges are designed to accommodate everything from pistols to rifles and shotguns (with some caliber and ammunition restrictions—see our rifle and shotgun FAQ for details).

Since you’re bringing your own firearm, you may shoot solo if you’d like—or you can share your firearm with up to three guests in your port.

For safety, we ask that all personal firearms remain cased until you are inside your assigned port. You are responsible for ensuring that your firearm is operational and compliant.

If you’d like assistance, our professional instructors and gunsmiths are always available—whether you’d like a quick safety refresher, on-the-spot guidance in the port, or even a full cleaning and inspection.

For those traveling from out of state, please be sure to follow all legal transport requirements: firearms must be unloaded and locked in a case, ammunition stored separately, and both secured in the trunk or as far from the driver as possible.

I am a tourist. Can I still shoot at your range?2025-12-03T10:58:38-05:00

Yes! Gun For Hire is a true destination experience. With over 5,000 five-star reviews, we’ve earned our reputation as the East Coast’s premier shooting range thanks to our incredible staff, welcoming environment, and world-class facility.

We’re open to the public, and visitors from any state or country are welcome to shoot here. You do not need a New Jersey FID card or permit to enjoy the range.

We provide everything you need to have a blast—firearms, ammunition, eye/ear protection, and targets. All you need is a valid government-issued photo ID and a friend. Please note: there are no solo shooters unless you are bringing your own firearm.

  • U.S. Visitors: You may rent and shoot firearms as long as you are not prohibited by law from handling a firearm.

  • International Visitors: We regularly host guests from around the world who want to experience the American tradition of shooting. Simply bring your passport, and our team will guide you through the process.

If you are traveling with your own firearm, please follow all federal and state transportation laws. Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a case, with ammunition stored separately, and secured in the trunk or as far from the driver as possible.

At Gun For Hire, safety and hospitality go hand in hand—making us a must-visit stop for travelers who want an unforgettable American shooting experience.

Can my guest and I have two ports?2025-09-02T22:02:22-04:00

Yes, you can, but there are some important rules to keep in mind:

  • If you are renting firearms: You must be in the port with at least one other person. For safety reasons, there are no solo shooters with rentals.

  • Each port can have up to two rentals at a time.

  • If you’re a group of four, you can all share one port together with two rentals, or split into two ports with two people and two rentals in each.

  • Once everyone has been instructed on the firearms, you’re welcome to switch ports so everyone can try each other’s rental choices.

The only way to shoot solo in a port is if you’ve brought your own firearm.

Our staff will make sure your group is set up in the best configuration for both fun and safety, so everyone gets the most out of their range time.

Can I transfer my standard membership to someone else?2025-09-03T08:51:15-04:00

No, standard Gun For Hire memberships are non-transferable and belong exclusively to the member who purchased them. This policy helps us ensure that all membership benefits and perks are used fairly and securely.

If you’d like to share the range with friends or family, you’re always welcome to bring up to three guests with you during your visits. They’ll enjoy the Gun For Hire experience right alongside you.

For those looking for even more flexibility, we also offer gift cards and event packages, which make it easy to share the excitement of the range without transferring your membership.

Can someone else use my membership if I’m not there?2025-09-03T09:17:45-04:00

No, memberships are non-transferable and may only be used by the member whose name is on the account. For security and fairness, membership benefits—including free lane time, discounts, and transfers—cannot be loaned or shared if the member is not present.

That said, as a member you can always bring up to three guests with you during your visit so they can enjoy the range right alongside you. If your friends or family love the experience, they’re welcome to join as members themselves and unlock their own benefits.

Can I use Gun For Hire to run my own paid instruction or qualification courses?2025-09-03T09:35:40-04:00

No. All instruction and qualification courses at Gun For Hire must be conducted by our in-house, certified instructors. Outside instructors are not permitted to use the range for paid lessons or courses.

There are two important reasons for this:

  1. Insurance & Safety: Only Gun For Hire instructors are covered under our insurance policies. This ensures that every training session meets the highest safety standards.

  2. Quality & Consistency: Instruction is one of our core services. Allowing outside instructors would be like Yankee Stadium letting an outside vendor sell hotdogs in the stands—it wouldn’t make sense to allow someone to sell the very service we proudly provide.

That said, if you’d like to train or qualify, our professional team offers a wide range of courses from beginner to advanced, along with one-on-one instruction that can be tailored to your needs.

👉 Check out our [Training Courses page] for upcoming classes and programs.
