What is the age requirement?

Ages 8 and up are welcome to shoot. No matter where you’re from, you’re treated like family at Gun For Hire!  Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. We are the only 6-Star family gun range in America. Professional instruction is available for anyone  during a regular range visit. Whether it’s your very first time shooting or you simply want to polish your technique, our instructors can work with you one-on-one right in your port. This option is flexible, available anytime, and perfect for guests who want immediate guidance without enrolling in a scheduled course.

Age guidelines:

• Under 8: Children may not enter the live range. However, we provide a comfortable family lounge where you can relax and watch from outside the bay. Plus, our youngest guests receive a small surprise gift so they still feel part of the fun.

• Ages 8 and up: May shoot long guns (rifles or shotguns) under the supervision of an adult 21 or older.

• Ages 13 and up: May shoot pistols as well as long guns, again with an adult 21 or older.

For safety and comfort, we recommend younger shooters start with a .22LR firearm. If a child shows maturity and the ability to handle more, our instructors may allow larger calibers.

Important to know:

• Children cannot be left unattended at any time.

• A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for a minor’s participation. Each visit also confirms agreement to our most current Waiver and Assumption of Risk policy.

We’re just 17 miles from Times Square, New York City. Travel time is typically about 15 minutes once you’re out of the city.

If you don’t have a vehicle, the fastest and most cost-effective way to reach us is by Uber or Lyft. Bring your receipt, and we’ll give you a free gun rental valued at $25 as our way of saying thanks for making the trip!

Can someone use my Membership if I’m not there?

No, memberships are non-transferable and may only be used by the member whose name is on the account. For security and fairness, membership benefits—including free lane time, discounts, and transfers—cannot be loaned or shared if the member is not present.

That said, as a member you can always bring up to three guests with you during your visit so they can enjoy the range right alongside you. If your friends or family love the experience, they’re welcome to join as members themselves and unlock their own benefits.

Can first-timers shoot here?

Absolutely! We specialize in first-time shooters, and our friendly instructors and Range Safety Officers will guide you through the entire experience step-by-step.

You don’t need any prior knowledge about firearms — we love beginners and make the process safe, comfortable, and fun.

We provide everything you need, including:

Do you offer private firearm training?

Yes. Gun For Hire offers private firearms instruction for individuals who want personalized training with one of our professional instructors.

Private lessons are scheduled directly through our training team. Please note: You must bring your own firearm to a private lesson. Firearm rentals are not available for private instruction. If you do not yet own a firearm, we recommend taking NRA First Steps Pistol, where firearms and equipment are provided.

Can I shoot rifles, pistols and shotguns? What type of ammo can I use?

Yes! Gun For Hire is fully equipped for rifles and shotguns in addition to handguns.

Rifles:

• Rifles under .50 caliber are welcome.

• Larger “Big Bore” or African Dangerous Game calibers may be shot on our 50-yard range.

• The Barrett .50 BMG is available as a rental in the 50-yard range.

Shotguns:

• Shoulder-fired shotguns are permitted.

• Stockless shotguns (such as the TAC-14 or Shockwave) are not allowed.

• Ammunition must be buckshot or slugs only—no birdshot or target loads.

Ammunition Rules:
For safety, the following types of ammunition are not permitted:

• Steel core

• Armor-piercing

• Tracer

• Incendiary

• Bi-metal jacketed

Other Restrictions:

• All long guns must be fired from the shoulder.

• Muzzle loader/black powder firearms are not permitted.

• Please inform our staff if you plan to shoot a rifle or shotgun so they can verify your ammunition.

Whether you’re bringing your own rifle or shotgun, or renting from our extensive collection, our ranges are designed to give you a safe, exciting, and unforgettable experience.

Do you have a ladies night?

We don’t host a traditional weekly “Ladies Night,” because at Gun For Hire every day is designed to be welcoming and inclusive for women. From first-time shooters to experienced marksmen, our range offers a safe, supportive, and family-friendly environment.

That said, we host exciting Girls Night Out (GNO)events, where up to 90 ladies come together for an evening of amazing food, fun, and port time—it’s always one of our most popular gatherings!

For women looking to take their skills more seriously, we also offer a Ladies-Only Beginner Pistol Course, designed to provide a comfortable, supportive learning environment with professional instruction.

Do you offer gun cleaning services?

Yes! Gun For Hire offers professional firearm cleaning services performed by our skilled Gunsmithing Team.

What’s included:

• Ultrasonic cleaning, oil bath, bore cleaning, and proper lubrication

• Guns with optics are hand-cleaned (unless you request optic removal)

Member Perk:
All Gun For Hire Members enjoy at least one free pistol cleaning as part of their membership.

How it works:

• Handguns: Drop off your cleared handgun at the rental retail counter. Cleanings are done while you wait—please do not leave the building.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

We don’t have a strict “dress code,” but for your safety and comfort we do have a few important guidelines:

• Closed-toe shoes are required—no sandals, flip-flops, or open footwear.

• Shirts with sleeves are recommended to protect against hot brass. Tank tops, low-cut shirts, or clothing that leaves skin exposed can make your visit uncomfortable.

• Eye and ear protection are required at all times on the range (available for rent or purchase if you don’t have your own).

• Comfortable, casual clothing that allows free movement is best.

Can I bring my own firearm to a training course?

Yes! For our beginner-level courses (such as NRA First Steps in pistol, rifle, or shotgun), students typically use the specific rental firearms we provide for consistency and safety. However, you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Once you progress beyond the beginner level, things change: for all intermediate and advanced courses, you are required to use your own firearm. Rentals are not available at those levels, as training focuses on building deeper skills with your personal firearm.

This structure ensures that beginners learn on standardized, easy-to-use firearms, while experienced shooters advance with the firearm they plan to carry or train with long-term.

How do I enroll in a course?

Is there parking available at Gun For Hire?

Yes! We have over 80 parking spaces available for our guests.

As America’s largest indoor family gun range, we’ve made it easy and convenient to visit. Our main parking area is located in the front of the building on McBride Avenue, with several spots directly near the entrance. This entrance is also wheelchair accessible.

Additional parking is available with access from Lackawanna Avenue, giving visitors multiple ways to enter the facility.

With plenty of parking and two convenient entrances, visiting Gun For Hire is quick and easy.

Can pregnant women or nursing mothers shoot?

For health and safety reasons, we do not recommend shooting while pregnant or nursing. While the risk of exposure to lead particles is minimal, and modern ranges like ours take extensive safety precautions, medical experts still advise against it. Combined with the noise and vibrations, it’s best to wait until after pregnancy or nursing to participate.

You are, however, always welcome to enjoy the range in other ways—many expectant or nursing mothers visit to watch family and friends shoot from our lounge or viewing areas.

If you have specific medical questions, we always encourage you to consult with your healthcare provider before making a decision. At Gun For Hire, your safety and well-being come first.

Do you allow photos and videos?

Yes! You’re welcome to take photos and videos as long as it does not interfere with safety or our Range Safety Officers’ instructions.
Please record only your own group and be respectful of the privacy of others while filming.

Is Gun For Hire open to the public?

Yes! Gun For Hire is 100% open to the public—no membership, license, or prior experience is required to enjoy the range.

All you need is a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.). First-time shooters are welcome every day, and our Range Safety Officers and instructors are always available to guide you through the experience.

If you are not bringing your own firearm and plan to rent, please note that you must bring a friend or family memberwith you. For safety reasons, we do not allow solo shooters with only rentals.

Of course, members enjoy exclusive perks such as free transfers, discounted services, and guest privileges—but anyone can walk in and shoot at Gun For Hire.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Can tourists shoot here?

Absolutely! We welcome thousands of visitors from around the world every year who want to experience shooting at America’s only 6-Star Family Gun Range. If you’re visiting the New York City area, Gun For Hire is just minutes from NYC and no U.S. firearm permit is required to shoot at our range. All you need is a valid passport or government-issued ID, and our friendly staff will guide you through the entire experience. Do you offer instruction during walk-in sessions?

Range Safety Officers assist you throughout your session, but if you want hands-on instruction, you can add the New Shooter Experience or book a private lesson.

What if I’m nervous or have never handled a gun before?

You’re in the right place. Our team is trained to guide first-timers step-by-step, at your pace. We also offer a New Shooter Experience Add-On if you want extra personalized coaching and professional instruction.

Can we share a port?

Yes. Up to 4 people can share the same port. Port sharing is perfect for date nights, families, and groups — everyone rotates safely under the guidance of our Range Safety Officers.

What do I need to bring with me?

Just bring a valid Gov ID Drivers license or passport. We provide everything else — firearms, ammo, eye/ear protection, instruction, and targets.

Can I bring my own ammo if I rent a firearm?

No. For safety and insurance reasons, all rental firearms must use Gun For Hire ammunition.

Can I bring my own firearm?

Yes. You may bring your own firearms and ammo. If you bring your own ammo, no steel-core or armor-piercing rounds are allowed. Our gunsmiths can check questionable ammo on-site.

How long can I shoot for?

Your session includes one hour of range time, which is our most popular option. If you’d like to stay longer, you can easily purchase additional one-hour sessions right at the counter.

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are not required—walk-ins are always welcome at Gun For Hire, America’s Largest 6-Star Gun Range. Most guests simply check in when they arrive and are assigned a port within about 20 minutes.

That said, weekends and evenings can get busy, with an average wait time of about 35 minutes (though this can fluctuate). No matter when you walk in, our staff will make sure your experience is smooth, safe, and fun from start to finish.

Do I need a permit?

No permit or prior experience is required. Just bring a valid government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s license, etc.). Our team will walk you through everything from safety to setup.

Are there documents I need to fill before I visit?

No homework required—just bring yourself and your ID! When you arrive at Gun For Hire, our concierge team will hand you a one-time waiver. It’s quick, easy, and only takes a few minutes.

• First-time visitors: Simply complete the waiver when you arrive.

• Returning guests: If your waiver is already on file, you’re good to go!

• Families with kids: A parent or legal guardian will need to sign the waiver for any shooters under 18.

Once that’s done, you’re ready to enjoy America’s only 6-Star Family Gun Range—no extra paperwork, no stress, just pure excitement, safety, and memories waiting to be made!

Do I need to come with someone?

If you are bringing your own firearm, you may shoot solo in your port and you’re also welcome to rent additional firearms to try.

However, if you do not have a firearm and you plan on renting firearms, you must have at least one other person with you. For safety reasons, solo rentals are not permitted.

Each port can accommodate up to four people, so you’re welcome to bring friends or family to share the experience. This policy ensures the highest level of safety while still giving you the flexibility to enjoy the range on your own if you bring your own firearm.

Do you offer law enforcement or security qualifications?

Yes! Gun For Hire is proud to support law enforcement officers, retired officers, and armed security professionals with convenient qualification services.

Come in and qualify every Tuesday from 12–3pm—no online registration is required. Just show up and we’ll take care of the rest.

Pricing:

• Annual Members: RPO qualification is FREE

• Non-Members & Steel Members: RPO qualification is $70

• Security Officers: Qualification is $90

All qualifications are conducted by our certified instructors under strict safety and legal standards.

What if my party or corporate event guests arrive late?

We understand—when guests are traveling from different areas, sometimes not everyone arrives right on time. Please don’t worry.

If part of your group is delayed, we’ll get everyone checked in and settled as they arrive. Once your full party or team is here, if it’s past your reserved start time, we’ll do our best to accommodate your event immediately. Depending on how busy the range is, there may be a short wait, but our staff will work closely with you to make sure your celebration or corporate outing still runs smoothly.

Pro Tip: Encourage your guests to plan to arrive 15–20 minutes early. This allows time for check-in, gear distribution, and safety briefings so your group can maximize time on the range.

What if I’m late for a scheduled course?

We know life happens, but please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your course. If you arrive late, you’ll need to sign up for another available course date and pay for a new seat. This keeps things fair for everyone and ensures classes run smoothly.

Course Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy:

• 2 or more days before your course: 100% refund to your original payment method, or you can move to the next available date.

• Less than 24 hours before your course: Receive a 50% credit in your Gun For Hire account toward the next available course. This helps cover staff scheduling and prep costs.

• No notice of cancellation: No credit or refund.

• Rescheduling prior to 24 hours before the course: $25 reschedule fee applies.

If you need to cancel or move your course date, please email info@gunforhire.com with your name and the course you’d like to adjust so we can take care of it quickly for you.

We always recommend double-checking your course date and leaving a little extra travel time so you can relax and enjoy the experience without stress.

Can I use black powder, muzzle loaders, or antique firearms at your range?

For safety reasons, muzzle loaders, black powder firearms, and antique firearms are not permitted on any of our ranges.

Our facility is designed for modern firearms only, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns that meet our caliber and ammunition requirements. If you’re unsure whether your firearm is permitted, please speak with our staff before your visit—we’ll be happy to confirm.

Do you sell ammunition and accessories on-site?

Yes! Gun For Hire has a fully stocked retail store right inside the range. You’ll find:

• A wide selection of ammunition for handguns, rifles, and shotguns

Yes! Gun For Hire offers secure, long-term firearm storage through Mt. Gunmore Estates, our premium in-house gun locker facility. Both medium and large lockers are available.

What safety rules should I know before visiting?

At Gun For Hire, safety is our #1 priority. Every guest receives a safety briefing, but here are the key rules to know before you arrive:

1. Keep all firearms cased until you are inside your assigned port.

2. Always keep the firearm pointed downrange—never turn with a firearm in hand.

3. Eye and ear protection are required at all times inside the range.

4. Follow all Range Safety Officer (RSO) instructions immediately.

5. Do not load the firearm until you are ready to shoot.

6. When picking up a firearm, index your finger. This means keeping your finger off the trigger and resting it along the side of the gun until you’re ready to fire.

What is the age requirements for scheduled training courses?

These scheduled courses are not necessary for guests looking to come and just enjoy shooting in Range! Our optional training courses are popular for locals who enjoy learning more about the shooting sport.

Our structured 4-hour courses (beginner through advanced) have specific age requirements:

• Ages 10 and up: Eligible for introductory rifle or shotgun courses.

• Ages 13 and up: Eligible for introductory pistol courses, in addition to rifle and shotgun.

• All minors: Must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is 21 or older.

For intermediate and advanced courses, students must use their own firearm and demonstrate the maturity, safety awareness, and physical ability required for the class.

Do you have a First Responder or Military Membership?

Yes we do! We proudly offer our Red, White & Blue Membership, created exclusively for Active First Responders and Active Military. It’s our way of showing appreciation for the dedication, service, and sacrifice you provide every single day.

To qualify, you must be currently active and will be asked to present your valid credentials when picking up your membership ID.

Can I bring my own gun?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own firearm — even if you’re visiting from New York. Our 50-yard range is built to handle just about anything, up to and including a .50 cal BMG.

We do ask that all firearms remain cased until you enter your port. Our team will not inspect or review your firearm; it’s your responsibility to ensure that it is operational and compliant. However, if you’d like assistance, our skilled gunsmiths are always available for cleaning, maintenance, or repairs.

For those traveling from out of state, please follow proper transport laws: keep your firearm unloaded and locked in a case, store your ammunition separately, and secure both in the trunk (or as far from the driver as possible). New York residents can also travel here with their firearm under these same guidelines.

What is the cost of an FFL transfer?

Another great reason to become a Member at Gun For Hire — your membership instantly includes free FFL transfers (one or even three, depending on your membership level).

• Non-Members & Steel Members: $75 per transfer + $20 NJ State NICS fee

Face-to-Face FFL Transfers

Eligibility:
Transfers are available to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents (Green Card holders). At this time, they are not available for Non-Immigrant Visa, Student Visa, or Work Visa holders. If you’re unsure, please email GFHFFL@GunForHire.com before arranging your transfer.

Can we smoke or vape inside?

For the comfort and safety of all our guests, smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the building or range. That said, we know many visitors enjoy a cigar or cigarette while spending time with friends and family. For your convenience, we provide a designated outdoor smoking area complete with proper disposal so you can relax and enjoy without worry.

How much does it cost / Price?

Most first-time guests spend about $75–$125 per person for a full visit. That usually includes lane time, a firearm rental, eye and ear protection, large targets, professional instruction, and ammunition. Your exact total will depend on which firearms you rent and the ammo you choose.

25-Yard Lane (1 hour)

Can I just observe or spectate?

Of course! We would never separate family and friends. If you’d prefer not to shoot, you’re welcome to relax in our lounge area and watch the action from just outside the range.

If you’d like to step inside the bay to fully experience the energy—or to take photos—you’ll need to check in for port time and use proper eye and ear protection (available for rent if needed).

What is an FID card and do I need one?

An FID card (Firearms Purchaser Identification Card) is a permit issued by the State of New Jersey that allows residents to purchase and own firearms and ammunition.

But here’s the good news: you do not need an FID card to shoot at Gun For Hire. Our range is open to the public, and first-time guests are welcome every day. Just bring a valid photo ID, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you are interested in owning a firearm in New Jersey, that’s where an FID card comes in. The process can be a little confusing, but our Gun For Hire Concierge Team is here to help guide you every step of the way—from applying for your FID to choosing your first firearm.

Can I holster draw inside the range?

Can I holster draw in the range?
For safety, holster draw is only permitted under specific conditions:

• Active Law Enforcement or individuals who have successfully completed the Gun For Hire 4-Hour Holster Draw Course may draw and fire from the holster.

• Retired Law Enforcement, armed security personnel, and NJ CCW permit holders may carry a firearm holstered, but may not conduct draw-and-fire drills inside the range.

Please note: Meeting the above prerequisites does not exempt anyone from following all range rules. Firearms must always be aimed; no hip-firing, retention shooting, or other prohibited actions are allowed.

Range Safety Officers are on duty at all times. If they observe unsafe behavior or rule violations, holster privileges may be revoked.

Important: Anyone carrying a firearm must keep it holstered at all times in public areas, including the lobby and store. Firearms may only be unholstered once you are inside your port and ready to shoot.

Are hollow point bullets legal in New Jersey?

Yes — with important restrictions. In New Jersey, you can legally own hollow point ammunition if you are otherwise allowed to own a firearm. Most commonly: You may keep hollow points in your home for self-defense You may transport them directly to and from the range You may use them at a licensed shooting range However: Hollow points are not permitted for everyday carry outside your property, even if you have a carry permit They must be transported properly (similar to firearms — secured and going directly to/from an authorized location) Important: New Jersey law is very strict. If you’re unsure, always transport ammo directly between your home and the range and avoid unnecessary stops.

Can a felon shoot at the range?

Member-Only Rentals in Range 3

Great news for members: Member-Only Rentals are now available in Range 3. If you wanted the option to rent without shooting on the public range, now you have it. Members may also bring up to 3 guests into the port. Please note: 15-minute instruction is not available in Range 3 during Member-Only Rental hours. Does GFH participate in the GSSF Pistol Purchase Program?

Yes, you can use your GSSF coupon at our Gun For Hire store. We are a blue label Glock dealer.

Why is a stockless shotgun not allowed?

For control purposes, we do not allow firearms without stocks or sights.

Do you offer fingerprinting?

Yes, we offer fingerprinting services for CCW renewals and applications. Whether you need a single fingerprint card or multiple cards with photos, we can help. What is the policy of shooting high brass shells?

Not a problem, as long as its Buck shot or slug.

Can I bring a BB gun?

Yes, you can bring a BB gun to Gun For Hire, but with an important restriction: you cannot shoot BBs. Most BB guns are capable of shooting pellets, which are allowed at Gun For Hire. However, metal BBs (including gold BBs) tend to ricochet and are not approved for use at our facility. To clarify: BB guns and pellet guns: Allowed Lead pellets: Allowed Metal BBs: Not allowed

Can my child shoot my handgun?

Minors Shooting at Gun For Hire If you bring your own firearm to Gun For Hire, including a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, your child may be able to shoot that firearm under proper supervision. Please understand that our Range Safety Officers are always monitoring the range for safety. If a firearm appears to be too strong, too large, or not appropriate for the minor shooter, they may offer guidance or make a safety recommendation. If you visit with your child and do not bring your own firearm, rental firearm rules apply: Children ages 8–12 may shoot rental long guns only, such as rifles and shotguns. Teens ages 13 and up may shoot rental long guns and rental handguns, as long as they can safely handle them. Safety always comes first, and our team is here to make sure every experience is safe, supervised, and enjoyable.
