Firearm Rental FAQ

How much does it cost?

Most first-time guests spend about $75–$125 per person for a full visit. That usually includes lane time, a firearm rental, eye and ear protection, large targets, professional instruction, and ammunition. Your exact total will depend on which firearms you rent and the ammunition you choose.

A La Carte Pricing

25-Yard Lane (1 hour)

• Weekdays: $25 for the first person, $20 for each additional (up to 4 people per lane)
• Weekends: $30 for the first person, $25 for each additional (up to 4 people per lane)

50-Yard Lane (1 hour)

• Weekdays: $30 for the first person, $20 for each additional (up to 4 people per lane)
• Weekends: $35 for the first person, $25 for each additional (up to 4 people per lane)

Note: No rentals are allowed on the 50-yard lane, except our famous Barrett .50 BMG, which may be rented on-site (availability may vary).

Gun Rentals

• $25 per firearm, with 300+ options to choose from
• Ammunition sold separately
• Premium, high-end firearms available at additional pricing

Good to Know

• If you’re shooting alone, you must bring your own firearm.
• Rentals require at least two people.

Who can rent firearms?

Firearm rentals are available to the general public—you do not need a New Jersey FID card, permit, or prior experience to rent and shoot at Gun For Hire.

There are just a few important rules:

• You must present a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.).
• No solo rentals: If you do not bring your own firearm, you must have at least one other person with you in the port. This is a strict safety policy.
• Rentals are available for guests 8 years and older, under the direct supervision of an adult 21+.
• You may rent from our massive collection of over 300 firearms, including handguns, rifles, shotguns, and specialty firearms.

If it’s your first time shooting, you’ll also receive a 15-minute professional introduction in the port to make sure you understand range etiquette and feel comfortable with the firearm you’ve chosen.

What is an FID card and do I need one?

An FID card (Firearms Purchaser Identification Card) is a permit issued by the State of New Jersey that allows residents to purchase and own firearms and ammunition.

But here’s the good news: you do not need an FID card to shoot at Gun For Hire. Our range is open to the public, and first-time guests are welcome every day. Just bring a valid photo ID, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Can I holster draw on the range?

For safety, holster draw is only permitted under specific conditions:

• Active Law Enforcement or individuals who have successfully completed the Gun For Hire 4-Hour Holster Draw Course may draw and fire from the holster.
• Retired Law Enforcement, armed security personnel, and NJ CCW permit holders may carry a firearm holstered, but may not conduct draw-and-fire drills inside the range.

Please note: Meeting the above prerequisites does not exempt anyone from following all range rules. Firearms must always be aimed; no hip-firing, retention shooting, or other prohibited actions are allowed.

Range Safety Officers are on duty at all times. If they observe unsafe behavior or rule violations, holster privileges may be revoked.

Important: Anyone carrying a firearm must keep it holstered at all times in public areas, including the lobby and store. Firearms may only be unholstered once you are inside your port and ready to shoot.
