No homework required—just bring yourself and your ID! When you arrive at Gun For Hire, our concierge team will hand you a one-time waiver. It’s quick, easy, and only takes a few minutes. First-time visitors: Simply complete the waiver when you arrive. Returning guests: If your waiver is already on file, you’re good to go! Families with kids: A parent or legal guardian will need to sign the waiver for any shooters under 18. Once that’s done, you’re ready to enjoy America’s only 6-Star Family Gun Range—no extra paperwork, no stress, just pure excitement, safety, and memories waiting to be made!
If you are bringing your own firearm, you may shoot solo in your port. However, if you plan on renting firearms, you must have at least one other person with you.For safety reasons, solo rentals are not permitted. Each port can accommodate up to four people, so you’re welcome to bring friends or family to share the experience. This policy ensures the highest level of safety while still giving you the flexibility to enjoy the range on your own if you bring your own firearm.
At Gun For Hire, safety is our #1 priority. Every guest receives a safety briefing, but here are the key rules to know before you arrive: Keep all firearms cased until you are inside your assigned port. Always keep the firearm pointed downrange—never turn with a firearm in hand. Eye and ear protection are required at all times inside the range. Follow all Range Safety Officer (RSO) instructions immediately. Do not load the firearm until you are ready to shoot. When picking up a firearm, index your finger. This means keeping your finger off the trigger and resting it along the side of the gun until you’re ready to fire. If you need extra support, we always have professional instructors on staff ready to step in and help—whether it’s your first time or you just want a quick refresher. At Gun For Hire, safety isn’t just a rule—it’s part of our 6-Star experience.

Range time at Gun For Hire is booked by the hour. A standard session includes one full hour in your port, and most guests find this is plenty of time to enjoy their rentals or practice with their own firearms. If you’d like to shoot longer, you can extend your session in additional hour blocks—just check with the counter staff before your time is up. Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, our goal is to give you the time and space you need to enjoy a safe and unforgettable experience.
Reservations are not available or required—walk-ins are always welcome at Gun For Hire, America’s Largest 6-Star Gun Range. Most guests simply check in when they arrive and are assigned a port within about 20 minutes. That said, weekends and evenings can get busy, with an average wait time of about 35 minutes (though this can fluctuate). No matter when you walk in, our staff will make sure your experience is smooth, safe, and fun from start to finish.
Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own firearm — even if you’re visiting from New York. Our 50-yard range is built to handle just about anything, up to and including a .50 cal BMG. We do ask that all firearms remain cased until you enter your port. Our team will not inspect or review your firearm; it’s your responsibility to ensure that it is operational and compliant. However, if you’d like assistance, our skilled gunsmiths are always available for cleaning, maintenance, or repairs. For those traveling from out of state, please follow proper transport laws: keep your firearm unloaded and locked in a case, store your ammunition separately, and secure both in the trunk (or as far from the driver as possible). New York residents can also travel here with their firearm under these same guidelines.
For the comfort and safety of all our guests, smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the building or range. That said, we know many visitors enjoy a cigar or cigarette while spending time with friends and family. For your convenience, we provide a designated outdoor smoking area complete with proper disposal so you can relax and enjoy without worry.
An FID card (Firearms Purchaser Identification Card) is a permit issued by the State of New Jersey that allows residents to purchase and own firearms and ammunition. But here’s the good news: you do not need an FID card to shoot at Gun For Hire. Our range is open to the public, and first-time guests are welcome every day. Just bring a valid photo ID, and we’ll take care of the rest. If you are interested in owning a firearm in New Jersey, that’s where an FID card comes in. Yes! For our beginner-level courses (such as NRA First Steps in pistol, rifle, or shotgun), students typically use the specific rental firearms we provide for consistency and safety. However, you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Once you progress beyond the beginner level, things change: for all intermediate and advanced courses, you are required to use your own firearm. Rentals are not available at those levels, as training focuses on building deeper skills with your personal firearm. This structure ensures that beginners learn on standardized, easy-to-use firearms, while experienced shooters advance with the firearm they plan to carry or train with long-term.

No need to worry—we provide everything you’ll need for our Beginner courses. This includes the firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, targets, and all course materials. All you need to bring is a valid photo ID and an open mind. Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety and comfort. If you already own a firearm and would like to bring it with you, you’re welcome to—but it’s not required. Please be sure your firearm is locked and cased, and let the instructor know when you enter the classroom that you have it with you.

With years of hands-on experience and a passion for all things firearms, Shane and his team handle everything from cleanings and installs to troubleshooting and compliance work. We don’t have a strict “dress code,” but for your safety and comfort we do have a few important guidelines: Closed-toe shoes are required—no sandals, flip-flops, or open footwear. Shirts with sleeves are recommended to protect against hot brass. Tank tops, low-cut shirts, or clothing that leaves skin exposed can make your visit uncomfortable. Eye and ear protection are required at all times on the range (available for rent or purchase if you don’t have your own). Comfortable, casual clothing that allows free movement is best. At Gun For Hire, safety always comes first—so dressing smart helps ensure you have the most enjoyable experience possible.
Yes! Gun For Hire is fully equipped for rifles and shotguns in addition to handguns. Rifles: Rifles under .50 caliber are welcome. Larger “Big Bore” or African Dangerous Game calibers may be shot on our 50-yard range. The Barrett .50 BMG is available as a rental in the 50-yard range. Shotguns: Shoulder-fired shotguns are permitted. Stockless shotguns (such as the TAC-14 or Shockwave) are not allowed. Ammunition must be buckshot or slugs only—no birdshot or target loads. Ammunition Rules:For safety, the following types of ammunition are not permitted: Steel core Armor-piercing Tracer Incendiary Bi-metal jacketed Other Restrictions: All long guns must be fired from the shoulder. Muzzle loader/black powder firearms are not permitted. Please inform our staff if you plan to shoot a rifle or shotgun so they can verify your ammunition. You don’t need to take a full course to enjoy your first visit, but if you’ve never shot before, you are required to take our 15-minute professional introduction inside the port with the firearms you’ve chosen. At Gun For Hire, safety comes first. This brief session ensures that you not only understand all the range etiquette and safety rules, but also feel confident and comfortable handling the firearm.
