If you are bringing your own firearm, you may shoot solo in your port. However, if you plan on renting firearms, you must have at least one other person with you.For safety reasons, solo rentals are not permitted. Each port can accommodate up to four people, so you’re welcome to bring friends or family to share the experience. This policy ensures the highest level of safety while still giving you the flexibility to enjoy the range on your own if you bring your own firearm.

For safety reasons, muzzle loaders, black powder firearms, and antique firearms are not permitted on any of our ranges. Our facility is designed for modern firearms only, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns that meet our caliber and ammunition requirements. Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own firearm — even if you’re visiting from New York. Our 50-yard range is built to handle just about anything, up to and including a .50 cal BMG. We do ask that all firearms remain cased until you enter your port. Our team will not inspect or review your firearm; it’s your responsibility to ensure that it is operational and compliant. However, if you’d like assistance, our skilled gunsmiths are always available for cleaning, maintenance, or repairs. For those traveling from out of state, please follow proper transport laws: keep your firearm unloaded and locked in a case, store your ammunition separately, and secure both in the trunk (or as far from the driver as possible). New York residents can also travel here with their firearm under these same guidelines.

But here’s the good news: you do not need an FID card to shoot at Gun For Hire. Our range is open to the public, and first-time guests are welcome every day. Just bring a valid photo ID, and we’ll take care of the rest. If you are interested in owning a firearm in New Jersey, that’s where an FID card comes in. However, you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Once you progress beyond the beginner level, things change: for all intermediate and advanced courses, you are required to use your own firearm. Rentals are not available at those levels, as training focuses on building deeper skills with your personal firearm. This structure ensures that beginners learn on standardized, easy-to-use firearms, while experienced shooters advance with the firearm they plan to carry or train with long-term.

Yes! Gun For Hire offers professional firearm cleaning services performed by our skilled Gunsmithing Team. What’s included: Ultrasonic cleaning, oil bath, bore cleaning, and proper lubrication Guns with optics are hand-cleaned (unless you request optic removal) Member Perk:All Gun For Hire Members enjoy at least one free pistol cleaning as part of their membership. How it works: Handguns: Drop off your cleared handgun at the rental retail counter. Cleanings are done while you wait—please do not leave the building. Yes! Gun For Hire has a full-service Gunsmithing Department led by our Gunsmith Manager, Shane. With years of hands-on experience and a passion for all things firearms, Shane and his team handle everything from cleanings and installs to troubleshooting and compliance work. What we offer: Handgun and long gun cleanings (ultrasonic, oil bath, bore cleaning, lubrication) Optic installations and zeroing (handguns and rifles) Trigger kit installs and misc. parts installs Troubleshooting and small repairs Removal of stripped screws NJ compliance work (for transfers/in-house purchases only) Fast turnaround: Most handgun cleanings are done same day, while you wait Long gun cleanings and services are by appointment Lead times are usually no more than a day or two Pricing highlights: Handgun cleaning: $40 (Members $30) AR-15 cleaning: $100 (Members $75) Scope mount & zero: $100 (Members $80) Red dot install: $40 (Members $30) Glock iron sight install: $40 (Members $30)(Members also enjoy at least one free pistol cleaning!) Can I shoot rifles and shotguns at your range? What kind of ammunition is allowed?

Yes! Gun For Hire is fully equipped for rifles and shotguns in addition to handguns. Rifles: Rifles under .50 caliber are welcome. Larger “Big Bore” or African Dangerous Game calibers may be shot on our 50-yard range. The Barrett .50 BMG is available as a rental in the 50-yard range. Shotguns: Shoulder-fired shotguns are permitted. Stockless shotguns (such as the TAC-14 or Shockwave) are not allowed. Ammunition must be buckshot or slugs only—no birdshot or target loads. Ammunition Rules:For safety, the following types of ammunition are not permitted: Steel core Armor-piercing Tracer Incendiary Bi-metal jacketed Other Restrictions: All long guns must be fired from the shoulder. Muzzle loader/black powder firearms are not permitted. Please inform our staff if you plan to shoot a rifle or shotgun so they can verify your ammunition. No problem—getting more ammo is quick and easy. For safety, please leave your firearm secured in your port, alert the RSO (Range Safety Officer), and then step out to the rental counter. Our staff will help you purchase the additional ammunition you need. Once you return to your port, you can continue your session without delay.
