How the CCW Permit Process Works

Every state has its own rules, but the basic concealed carry permit process usually follows these steps:

  1. Choose your state course: Select the CCW class for the state where you’re applying.
  2. Complete the required training: Attend classroom and range instruction with our certified team.
  3. Pass your live-fire qualification: Demonstrate safe handling and required proficiency.
  4. Finish fingerprints and paperwork: We help you understand the forms, documentation, and next steps.
  5. Submit your application: Turn in your completed packet to the proper authority and wait for approval.

Our goal is to remove the confusion and give you the confidence to carry legally and responsibly.

Concealed Carry Permit FAQ

How do I get my New Jersey CCW permit?

In New Jersey, you must complete the NJSP-approved Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation (CCARE) Protocol training/live-fire qualification and application through the NJSP website. Our NJ CCW course is designed to guide you through the training and qualification portion and help you understand the rest of the process.

Do I need my own firearm to take a CCW class at Gun For Hire?

To qualify, you will need a pistol that is legally registered to you, a concealment holster, two magazines, 50 rounds of ammo, a sturdy gun belt, and eye/ear protection.

Can I take one class to qualify for multiple CCW permits?

It depends on the states involved. Some states accept a shared training component, while others have
unique requirements. Our Maryland / DC / NY and Utah courses are structured to help you meet multi-state
needs where allowed. When you call or visit, our team will help you select the right combination of
classes.

Do I need prior shooting experience to take a CCW course?

The CCW permits that require shooting components are qualifications, and not for beginners, and are not classes on how to shoot, draw from a holster, or operate your firearm. Before registering, please make sure you have watched our qualification video and are already familiar with your firearm and holster. If you need help practicing, choosing the right holster, or building confidence before qualifying, we would love to assist you. Just email us and let us know what you need!

How long does it take to receive my CCW permit after class?

Processing times vary by state and by the agency reviewing your application. After training and
qualification, you’ll still need to submit fingerprints and paperwork. Some permits take weeks while
others take months. We ensure you leave class knowing exactly what to do next so nothing slows you down.
