Amateur License Classes and Exam:

LEVEL 1: Technician Class License
    • Exam Requirement: 35-question Technician Multiple-Choice Exam.

    • Privileges: All VHF/UHF Amateur bands (frequencies above 30 MHz). (Limited operations in certain HF bands.)

The FCC Technician License exam covers basic regulations, operating practices and electronics theory, with a focus on VHF and UHF applications. Morse code is not required for this license. With a Technician Class license, you will have all Ham radio privileges above 30 MHz. These privileges include the very popular 2-meter band. Many Technician licensees enjoy using small (2 meter) hand-held radios to stay in touch with other Hams in their area. Technicians may operate FM voice, digital packet (computers), television, single-sideband voice and several other interesting modes. You can even make international radio contacts via satellites, using relatively simple station equipment. Technician licensees now also have additional privileges on certain HF frequencies. Technicians may also operate on the 80-, 40- and 15-meter bands using CW (Morse Code), and on the 10-meter band using CW, voice and digital modes.

• Technician License Exam
The privileges of a Technician Class operator license include operating an amateur station that may transmit on channels in any of 17 frequency bands above 50 MHz with up to 1,500 watts of power. To pass the Technician Class examination, at least 26 questions from a 35 question written examination must be answered correctly. Technician Class licensees also have privileges in four amateur service bands in the HF range (3-30 MHz) (Refer to Section 97.301(e)).
• Additional $35 license fee will paid directly to FCC.

General License Exam
The General Class operator license authorizes privileges in all 29 amateur service bands. Upon accreditation by a Volunteer-Examiner Coordinator (VEC), an individual can help administer certain examinations. In addition to the above written examination, the requirement for a General Class operator license includes a 35 question written examination for which 26 correctly answered questions is the minimum passing score.

On Day 2 of the course, each student may have the opportunity to take the Technician Exam. If you pass the Technician Exam and would like to try for the General Exam, you may have the opportunity to do so at no additional charge.

“Quick Draw! Well almost lol”

I did not expect to become a cowboy taking this course but I fell so much better understanding the science, skill and techniques on drawing a gun from a holster now. I thought my gear was perfect but after a few rounds it actually just came loose!  Another classmate shared their setup and I liked it much better. The family feeling is awesome here. Looking forward to taking Urban Pistol 1 next!
