The NRA Rifle Instructor Training Course is designed for experienced rifle shooters who wish to become certified instructors. This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA’s Basic Rifle Shooting course. This course focuses on developing the instructional skills necessary to effectively train new shooters in rifle safety, marksmanship, and responsible firearm handling. Candidates will learn how to organize and present course material, coach students on the firing line, and evaluate shooting performance. Emphasis is placed on teaching proper shooting positions, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe range procedures. To enroll, candidates must first complete the NRA Basic Instructor Training Course and demonstrate solid rifle knowledge and shooting proficiency. Successful completion of this course qualifies individuals to certify students in the NRA Basic Rifle curriculum.

Course Details

  • Minimum age 21yo
  • Class Time: 8am – 5pm
  • The length of the course is approximately 9 hours
  • You must have certification of completion of the following classes:
    • NRA First Steps Rifle
    • NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) – Must be completed within 2 years
  • All Students must activate the NRA credentials on the NRA website (Fee-based on NRA Member or Non-Member)
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early. Late arrivals must reschedule and pay for a new course.
  • This qualification is held at Gun For Hire, 1267 McBride Ave, Woodland Park, NJ 07424.

  • Laptop that is able to open PDF and Power Point files.
  • The course will be given with a 30 minute break for lunch. You will be responsible for providing your own lunch.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing. No open-toed shoes.
  • NO live firearms or ammunition allowed in the classroom, ie: concealed carry. If you bring your own firearm for the course, it must be locked in a case.

  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting”
  • Basic Rifle Shooting Instructional Method
  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson III: Firing the First Shot
  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson IV: Standing Rifle Shooting Positions”
  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson V: Prone and Kneeling Rifle Shooting Positions”
  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson VI: Sitting Rifle Shooting Position and Review of Positions”
  • Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginning Rifle Shooters
  • Teaching “Rifle Lesson VII: Rifle Sports and Activities”
  • Rifle Instructor Examination and Course Conclusion
  • Please note each student is required 48hrs after class to activate your NRA credentials, NRA will charge a small fee depending on the rating.

Please arrive 15 minutes early. If you are late, you must sign up for another available course date and will be charged for a new qualification.

Reschedule or Cancel 2 or More Days Before Your Course:
100% refund to the original payment method, or you may transfer into the next available date.

Reschedule or Cancel Less Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
Receive a 50% credit of your purchase price in your Gun For Hire account, which may be applied toward a future date.
This reduction is due to staffing, scheduling, and course preparation already completed.

No-Show Policy:
If no cancellation is provided, no credit or refund is available.

Rescheduling Policy More Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
A $25 fee will apply if you need to change your date.
