The NRA Shotgun Instructor Training Course is designed for experienced shotgun shooters who want to become certified instructors. This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA’s Basic Shotgun Shooting course. This course prepares instructor candidates to effectively teach students the fundamentals of shotgun shooting, including safe firearm handling, proper mounting and stance, target tracking, and shooting moving clay targets. Participants will learn instructional techniques, lesson planning, range management, and how to provide constructive feedback to students. Prior completion of the NRA Basic Instructor Training Course and a strong understanding of shotgun operation are required. Upon successful completion, candidates will be certified to instruct and certify students in NRA shotgun training programs.

Course Details

  • Minimum age 21yo
  • Class Time: 8am – 5pm
  • The length of the course is approximately 9 hours
  • You must have certification of completion the following classes:
    • NRA First Steps Shotgun
    • NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) – Must be completed within 2 years
  • All Students must activate the NRA credentials on NRA website (Fee-based on NRA Member or Non-Member)
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early. Late arrivals must reschedule and pay for a new course.
  • This qualification is held at Gun For Hire, 1267 McBride Ave, Woodland Park, NJ 07424.
  • Laptop that is able to open PDF and Power Point files.
  • The course will be given with a 30 minute break for lunch. You will be responsible for providing your own lunch.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing. No open-toed shoes.
  • NO live firearms or ammunition allowed in the classroom, ie: concealed carry. If you bring your own firearm for the course, it must be locked in a case.
  • Introduction to “NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course Outline and Lesson Plans”
  • Teaching “Shotgun Lesson I: Shotgun Knowledge and Safe Handling”
  • Teaching “Shotgun Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting”
  • Basic Shotgun Shooting Instructional Method
  • Teaching “Shotgun Lesson III: Firing the First Shots”
  • Teaching “Shotgun Lesson IV: Shotgun Shooting Skills Practical Exercise”
  • Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginning Shotgun Shooters
  • Teaching “Shotgun Lesson V: Shotgun Sports and Activities”
  • Shotgun Instructor Examination and Course Conclusion
  • Please note each student is required 48hrs after class to activate your NRA credentials, NRA will charge a small fee depending on the rating.

Please arrive 15 minutes early. If you are late, you must sign up for another available course date and will be charged for a new qualification.

Reschedule or Cancel 2 or More Days Before Your Course:
100% refund to the original payment method, or you may transfer into the next available date.

Reschedule or Cancel Less Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
Receive a 50% credit of your purchase price in your Gun For Hire account, which may be applied toward a future date.
This reduction is due to staffing, scheduling, and course preparation already completed.

No-Show Policy:
If no cancellation is provided, no credit or refund is available.

Rescheduling Policy More Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
A $25 fee will apply if you need to change your date.
