NY 18-Hour Concealed Carry Course – Live Classroom & Live-Fire

State-Approved Training Required for a New York Concealed Carry Permit

This New York Concealed Carry Firearms Safety Training satisfies the 18-hour requirement mandated by the New York State Police for a Concealed Carry Permit. The course includes 16 hours of in-person classroom instruction followed by 2 hours of live-fire training. Students must demonstrate proficiency by achieving a minimum score of 80% on the written test and successfully completing a live-fire assessment.
NOTE: You only need to take this 18-hour course once to meet New York’s training requirement. You do not need to repeat it every time you reapply.

Course Details:

  • Minimum age is 21 years old.
  • The length of the course is approximately 18 hours, split into two 9-hour days.
  • This course is held at Gun For Hire, 1267 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ 07424.

What to Bring:

Day 1:

  • An open mind
  • Pen/Paper to take notes
  • Laptop or iPad with a flash drive reader

Day 2:

  • Pistol (must be registered to you)
  • Concealment holster — must be strong-side (IWB/AIWB/OWB allowed). No cross-draw, shoulder holsters, pocket holsters, sticky holsters, ankle holsters, or belly-band holsters. You must draw from concealment; if carrying OWB, your shirt must cover the firearm.
  • Two magazines (must be NJ compliant)
  • 100 rounds of factory ammunition
  • 10 Snap Caps
  • Pen/Paper to take notes
  • Laptop or iPad with a flash drive reader
  • Sturdy belt
  • Ear protection
  • Wrap-around eye protection (side shields will be provided if needed)
  • Brimmed hat recommended
  • Jeans or BDU-style pants. No sweatpants, shorts, or open-toed shoes.

NOTICE: No live ammunition is allowed in the classroom.

  • Best practices when encountering law enforcement
  • The statutorily defined sensitive places
  • Conflict management
  • Use of deadly force
  • Suicide prevention
  • Basic principles of marksmanship
  • Written proficiency test
  • 2 hours of live-fire training
  • Live-fire proficiency assessment

Reschedule or Cancel 2 or More Days Before Your Course:
100% refund to the original payment method, or you may transfer into the next available qualifying date.

Reschedule or Cancel Less Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
Receive a 50% credit of your purchase price in your Gun For Hire account, which may be applied toward a future qualification date.
This reduction is due to staffing, scheduling, and course preparation already completed.

No-Show Policy:
If no cancellation is provided, no credit or refund is available.

Rescheduling Policy More Than 24 Hours Before Your Course:
A $25 fee will apply if you need to change your date.
Please choose your date carefully.

Please arrive 15 minutes early.
Late arrivals must sign up for another available qualification date and will be charged for a new qualification session.
